Description:
The Inky Ones are the black and white and sepia designs that emerge when you dip your hammered cloths into iron and oak gall. I use this process as a rescue attempt when the colours have faded. The tannins are the last chemical to leave an autumn leaf when it degrades on the floor. That crushed brown can last all through the winter if the leaf is particularly resilient. In a petal print, iron attaches itself to tannin and the result is striking. This design is spare and quite dramatic. The tiny geranium flower print is picked out perfectly in ebony. If you have minimal rustic taste this mug is as moody and beautiful as it gets.
