Description:
This design belongs to a set of complementary patterns that all came from the same cloth. As I cut fragments from the original — a particularly vibrant piece I hammered last summer — they all seemed to collage in a way that reminded me of the stylised forms in the line of Japanese kimonos I have hanging on my wall. The cornucopia of flowers are sometimes undiscernible in the strong shapes that emerged from the petals, although those signature black eyelashes shout Pansy. Kimono are all distinctive patterns, and this is the brightest, capturing the pixellated version of the carotenes and anthocyanins of pansies, verbenas and scarlet flax petals worked very tightly together — this is a mug of pure petal joy!
